Causes & Symptoms

Fibromyalgia is defined as chronic widespread pain that may be accompanied by fatigue, muscle stiffness, memory, and mood issues. Thought to be caused by alterations in the central nervous system it occurs more often in women than men and may accompany other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis, anxiety and depression.

Arthritis is inflammation and stiffness in the joints. The cause of the inflammation depends on the cause as there are numerous types including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic, juvenile, lupus, gout, viral or bacterial to name a few.

Treatment

There is no cure for fibromyalgia, but symptoms can be relieved with exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy, sleep restoration and medication.

There is no cure for arthritis but treatment depends on the type and includes medication, heat/cold, stretching, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
